I’ve debated about going to one; specifically a Pontiac, 3800, or a Grand Prix one. Would you guys recommend it?

I’m a part of some Grand Prix groups on FB, and some of their members are....interesting. The consensus seems to be dark color schemes and large rims for their cars. And here I am enjoying my base model version, and love the original color. Heck, if I had any excess money, the only body change I’d make convert to dual exhaust and make the rest of the changes mechanically. I like sleeper cars. The plot thickens because my brother-in-law is in change of a FB Grand Prix group.

Also thought it would be funny that if i did go, to go with a dirty car; because that’s how it’s normally looks.

Depends on what you want to see? A grab bag of Pontiac’s greatest hits with a few quarky cars thrown in or Grand Prix owners with a majority of them made after 1988. It also depends on whether you want to talk about GPs or 3800s or Pontiac.

Well, I always like to what the other trims of my generation’s Grand Prix has. I’ve been debating about investing money to make my car a higher trim; but I can always look online at car ads instead.

So idk, I'm just curious about the meets I guess.

That is an acceptable answer as well.

Best place to go if you want to hang around a bunch of base model Grand Prix’s. But seriously, pretty much ALL single model car clubs are a bit strange. I prefer cars and coffee style meets where people from across the board show up.

It makes me wonder, what is the average Grand Prix owner like?

I’d say about 90% aren’t enthusiasts.

Most model-specific clubs are a little odd. Many make-specific ones are, too. A Pontiac meet would probably be fun, though.

Definitely depends on the car type and who are the typical people who actually own them. For Miata meets, it is actually really awesome since everyone is generally some sort of car nut in general. Sure it runs the gamut of ricers, hardcore track day bros, casual owners, old people with 100% stock examples, and crazy modifiers (LS swaps, rat rods, exocet, etc). But yeah for the Grand Prix? Haha I could imagine it being interesting to try at least. Might find some cool people and the worst that can happen is you never want to go again. General Pointiac or GM meet of some sort might be more interesting though.

So I think the answer to this is that if a car has been around for many years, leads itself to customization, and is typically owned by enthusiasts then it might be fun. For example, a Miata club, a jeep club, a VW bug club, or even a 911 club might be interesting.

A Grand Prix club? I’m leaning towards probably not but I may be wrong.

One benefit would be the variations throughout the years on the different trims. My generation came out in ‘04 with a bunch of trim levels, and some really interesting rims too. As time went on, they removed trim levels, combined a few, etc. I've looked online at pics of the different years, but that can't substitute seeing it in person.

I say it would be worth it to go to a GP or 3800 meet up. You’ll learn tips and tricks and what to do and what not to do for stuff down the road on your GP.

The other thing is alot of manufacturer meet ups have people who will bring out their classics, but they might have had a Wbody because they like to stick with the brand they like.

What year is your Grand Prix? Mine is an ’07. The more I drive it, the more I enjoy it. I wish I had the funds to change some stuff on it though.

‘03, I didnt really set out to buy one, but it was on Craigslist for a few hundred because it needed the intake manifold gaskets (notorious on these)

It’s my daily driver, has A/C, fits four adults, can haul 2x4's, decent power. Good ‘nuff.

Nice, so you got the previous gen then. I heard that was the last one to have cables and not be electronic unlike this one.
